Ryves Almshouses, Blandford Forum, Dorset

Ryves Almshouses were founded by George Ryves in 1682 for l0 poor persons. They were built near the outskirts of the town and escaped the disastrous fire of 1731. Beneath the gable is a stone tablet inscribed in Latin 'GEORGIVS RYVES ARMIGER DE DAMARY VICE COMES DORSETENSIS GERONTOCOMIVM HOC FECIT DICAVIT ANNO DNI MDCLXXXII'.
