The Mill, Castle Hill, Stafford, Staffordshire

This Tower windmill was built in 1796 using materials from the demolished Shire Hall. It has been suggested that the site of the mill was formerly the site of a Norman Royal Castle. In 1847 the mill became steam powered. By the early 1880s the steam power ceased to work and it was derelict by the late 1930s. Although derelict, the mill still stands as an important landmark in Stafford. Find out more about windmills and watermills in our Teachers' Kit - Mills. and our Teachers' Kit - Steam Power.
