United Reformed Sunday School, Elland, West Yorkshire

United Reformed Sunday School, built in 1853 by Joseph James. It is of a good, substantial Jacobean design. At this time many children worked and could only go to school on Sundays. Sunday Schools were established from the 1780s and taught basic literacy, numeracy and Religious Education. By 1851 they were being supported by the Sunday School Union.
