Buss, Frances Mary

Frances Buss began her career in education as a teacher in her mother's school before gaining qualifications at Queen's College. She then went on to establish the North London Collegiate School for Girls with an insistence on high standards. Buss worked with her friend Emily Davies to gain access for girls to local university examinations as well as supporting the founding of Girton College. She was also president of the Headmistresses' Association, and a governor of the London School of Medicine for Women. As well as her pioneering reforms in girls' education she was a suffrage and anti-slavery supporter.
